The Former President's Framework of Consequences and Incentives

Donald Trump's insatiable urge for payback has swiftly evolved into a methodical system. Within the twelve months, the chief executive's anger and caprices have adopted the form of official policies in a manner analogous to historical repressive systems. Justice department officials who fail to comply are immediately removed and succeeded by supporters. Political leaders who challenge him face prosecution, judicial process and sanctions. Opponents have been labeled under presidential memoranda as “anti-American”, “opposed to religious values” and “anti-capitalist”, and threatened with criminal charges as “security threats”.

Government Institutions Restructured

All situation involving targeting of Trump's enemies and protection for supporters demonstrates its own particular qualities. However, notwithstanding their individual character, they represent expressions of what has arisen as a deliberate technique. These episodes are not coincidental. Trump's removal of federal attorneys and FBI officials, accompanied by his installation of supporters in key roles, started rapidly, promptly assumed a regularity, and has now been molded into a structure. The justice department and the Federal Bureau have been restructured into ideological organizations under the president's explicit orders to carry out his demands. Injustice has been made routine. It represents the retribution system.

Administration is preoccupied with punishing the chief's perceived enemies than they are with defending our national security.

Internal the Structure

The origin of this framework has been revealed in the lawsuit of three previous senior Federal Bureau officials submitted in late summer in the judicial system in Washington against top official a senior appointee and top lawyer another official for illegal termination in “a initiative of payback against Plaintiffs for what the accused considered to be a refusal to demonstrate sufficient devotion”. According to the filing that a former acting director, the former interim leader, recounts a conversation in which Patel “freely acknowledged the impropriety of his actions”.

He had sought to protect agency personnel from being terminated, the lawsuit states. Patel advised him that “administration officials” – interpreted by Driscoll to be the executive branch and justice department – had ordered him to fire all those who they identified as having worked on a criminal investigation against the president. The complaint goes on: “The director stated that he had to terminate the personnel his superiors told him to remove, because his chance to keep his own job was contingent on the dismissal of the officials who handled matters involving the leader. The director explained that there was no way he or the official could do to halt these or any other dismissals, because ‘the agency tried to place the chief in detention and he recalls it clearly.’” Once Driscoll advised Patel he was violating the FBI's own regulations, Patel supposedly said “he knew that and he knew the character of the swift terminations were likely unlawful”.

Broad Consequences

After the director's claimed admission to Driscoll, the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau have been dismantled and repurposed for the administration's system of punishment. Six of the bureau's high-ranking agents were terminated or compelled to leave in the initial period of the administration. About 4,500 lawyers at DoJ have agreed to a “deferred resignation program”. A minimum of several government attorneys, such as those in the southern district of New York, quit in objection over what they considered as political interference in abandoning the corruption case against the New York City mayor, Eric Adams, in return for his assistance with the administration's ICE detentions of foreign nationals. The anti-corruption unit of DoJ, which handles misconduct investigations, has been cut down to a handful of lawyers. The rights protection unit has been devastated: seventy percent of its personnel has resigned. 33% of executives at DoJ have resigned. The unit implementing conservation statutes has lost 50% its supervisors.

Incentives and Penalties

Regarding the Adams case, the interim prosecutor for the southern district of New York, the official, resigned in protest against what she described as the “trade-off”. A key figure, the president's “border czar,” showed up as the implementer with the mayor on television to declare: “Unless he complies, I'll reappear in NYC.”. And, another figure, previously the justice department figure and a former Trump attorney, who brokered the deal, was awarded an appellate federal judgeship, a possible springboard to the highest court.

His exemption for wrongdoings committed while in government, granted by the unprecedented ruling of the GOP-led on the supreme court, thus blocking his legal action over the Capitol riot and preserving his political viability for the presidential race, is the foundation stone on which he stands to protect his stalwarts. With such immunity, he has been freed to enable wrongdoing. The consequence of the supreme court decision permeates his presidency and the political party down to its bones. Trump v United States has spread. As the former president's legal adviser he remarked about the Watergate
